Adani Shantigram - Midtown Park - WPC Decking & outdoor execution by Woodshift

What goes into creating extra-ordinary outdoor spaces at Adani Shantigram? Explore the WPC decking, floating decks and outdoor elements executed by WoodShift in Midtown park - Shantigram, Ahmedabad.

Introduction

Adani Shantigram is a large integrated township developed by Adani Realty along SG Highway, between Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. Spread across approximately 600 acres, the township combines residential communities with landscaped parks, recreational areas, commercial spaces, and everyday amenities.

As part of this expansive community, Midtown Park offers residents a thoughtfully planned outdoor environment for relaxation, recreation, and social interaction. The park was designed by Studio Pod, a Pune-based landscape design studio, which approached WoodShift for the execution of the park’s WPC decking, benches, and other outdoor elements.

The project required outdoor solutions that could complement Studio Pod’s design while providing durability, comfort, and practical performance. WoodShift worked to translate the design concept into functional site elements suited to Ahmedabad’s climate and the everyday use expected within a large residential township.

Through collaboration between Adani Shantigram, Studio Pod, and WoodShift, Midtown Park became a balanced outdoor space combining landscape design, material performance, and usability.

Project Brief

Midtown Park was planned as a welcoming outdoor destination within Adani Shantigram, giving residents a comfortable space to relax, connect, and enjoy the surrounding landscape. The design combines greenery, seating areas, walking zones, and architectural elements to create a well-balanced public environment.

Studio Pod developed the landscape design with a focus on functionality, visual harmony, and everyday user experience. To execute key outdoor components, the design team approached WoodShift for WPC decking, benches, and floating pathways.

WoodShift’s role was to convert the complicated design intent into durable and practical site installations. The materials and finishes were examined to complement the park’s character and durability while supporting regular outdoor use in Ahmedabad’s climate.

For that, the outdoor elements had to meet several requirements:

·        Bring the unique floating and arch-shaped deck design to life.

·        Handle Ahmedabad’s heat, monsoon, and outdoor weather.

·        Provide comfortable and sturdy seating areas.

·        Maintain a clean and consistent look throughout the park.

·        Keep maintenance simple and manageable.

·        Create durable spaces suitable for everyday public use.

WoodShift worked closely with the project team to translate these requirements into WPC decking, benches, and other outdoor installations. The focus was not only on supplying materials but also on achieving accurate execution, clean detailing, and a finish that integrated naturally with the surrounding landscape.

1.    Floating WPC Decking

The floating decks were one of the key elements of the park, extending over the water and creating spaces for people to sit, walk and enjoy the surroundings.

 2.    Landscape & Ground-Level Decking

Apart from the floating sections, WPC decking was also used at ground level to create dedicated outdoor spaces within the landscaped areas.

3.    WPC Benches & Seating Platforms

The decking was complemented by our custom outdoor seating pavements and benches placed across the park. There are also these raised deck platforms in the landscape where the benches and tables are placed. Rather than treating the decking simply as a flooring material, these areas were executed as functional outdoor platforms, integrating the seating with the surrounding landscape.

The Challenge

The deck design included different shapes, levels and edges, making it more complex than a conventional straight decking installation. The deck also had to work around the waterbody while maintaining a clean and stable finish.

Why WPC for Midtown Park?

The material needed to be durable enough for regular outdoor use while still feeling natural and comfortable within the park environment.

WPC was chosen because it offered:

  • A natural, earthy appearance that blends with the greenery.

  • A softer-feeling surface compared with hard stone or concrete, making it more suitable for a family and children-friendly environment.

  • Durability for frequent public use.

  • Low maintenance for a large outdoor space.

  • A subtle finish that doesn't look too bright or distracting against the landscape.

Dark Chocolate – Choosing the right colour for the landscape?

The dark chocolate WPC was selected for both the decking and benches. Its deep brown tone blends naturally with the greenery and surrounding landscape, creating an earthy appearance similar to natural wood and tree trunks. The idea was to make the built elements feel like part of the landscape rather than stand out from it.

How WoodShift Became a Trusted Partner for Adani?

1) Quality of material: Out of multiple other options, our WPC was evaluated for its quality, finish and suitability for outdoor use.

2) IGBC Certification: Our material carries IGBC certification, supporting its suitability for building projects.

3) Fire Testing: The material underwent fire-performance testing as part of the evaluation.

4) Water Testing: Its performance in outdoor and water-exposed conditions was also tested.

5) EN Standards: Our product met the EN standards required for evaluation.
